LNG infrastructure operates in some of the most demanding environments in the energy sector. Extreme temperatures, high humidity, thermal cycling and strict reliability requirements all increase the risk of corrosion under insulation, vapour ingress and moisture-driven degradation.

In a recent article in LNG Industry, Mario Silvestro, Market and Application Development Manager at Henkel, explains how STOPAQ’s polyisobutene-based technology helps address these challenges with a simpler, faster and safer approach to corrosion prevention.

STOPAQ PIB-based systems provide a self-adhesive, self-healing barrier against oxygen and water. Unlike traditional liquid coatings or hot-applied wraps, they require minimal surface preparation, do not chemically cure and can be applied without complex equipment or extended waiting times.

For LNG operators, this means reduced labour intensity, faster application, improved safety in confined or difficult-to-access areas and long-term protection of critical downstream assets.
